FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-- HOW TO NOT GO CLINICALLY INSANE IN FEBRUARY

What a time to be alive

BROOKLYN, NY —

If there’s one thing I haven’t figured out as a freelance photographer, it’s Q1. It’s been cold in NY, it’s January, I’m writing this as the 15th inch of snow has hit the ground today, and it’s been a slow few work months. None of these things are really different from past years, but this is how I’ve been spending my time to try and not go insane.

First a little backstory. I started freelancing full time in May 2022. Started off to a good start, but when January 2023 came around, I really thought I had to start searching for jobs. Then I had a mentor tell me this is kinda just the way is for everyone, especially who was in the running niche. It just follows the way brands operate. Budgets open up early spring for those campaigns and activations, are used heavily during the summer and fall before wrapping up around holiday season. Work follows that. Slow till March, crazy Boston Marathon through NYC Marathon, then settles down again. Usually a pretty nicely timed break, but around this time every year I start to go a little stir crazy.

Print is in for me big time in 2026. Our studio got a large format printer so I’ve been taking lot of time learning how to use that- from installing a billion different drivers to testings all sorts of papers. I think we’re making some headway.

Second, I’ve been working on a couple books / zines that I’ve been sitting on for a while. The biggest has been a pretty large collaborative Tinman Elite book documenting the team from inception in 2017/2018 through the 2025 track season. It’s the first time I’ve worked with other photographers to combine our work into one volume and it’s been a pretty fun time. Been deep in Max, Ben, Kevin, and my archive for this. It’s gonna be a coffee table big boi book with probably a few too many pages. That project is nearing completion and a pre order link should be out within the next few weeks, with an in person release and gallery around BoulderBolder towards the end of May. Stay tuned for more!

While that’s been eating most of my time, I also have a couple event based zines that I gotta finally get printed. I like these to remember the bigger trips I have been on. I have one designed from 2022 worlds, am finishing up 2025 worlds, and a Tour de France. Who knows when these get done, they are kinda my free time projects but maybe if there are some extras I will list on the site and ship out. we’ll see.

ORGANIZATION AND METADATA

Second biggest project has been working through my archive adding metadata to all my photos. Is it necessary? no. Is it starting to make me pull my hair out? little bit. Is it fun? Totally. Building out the most searchable database in the history of digital media is gonna be sick when it’s done, and going through a buncha old pictures along the way has been a nice cherry on top. It’s always fun when you see a photo of someone from 7 years ago that you didn’t know and now you’re good friends with them. Thanks to everyone for being a good sport when I send you a random Air link at like 11pm.

OUTREACH

I still stay sliding into strangers DMs and inboxes. Been really trying to get in my fashion/editorial bag this year so been trying to connect with people and set up some test shoots in a bit of a different area.

Anyways that’s all I got for this time around. Next time you’ll hear from me will probably be in a few weeks with a TME book pre order link and release details. Thanks for reading. Talk soon.
